Lawn mowing in Hershey, PA

Hershey is the middle of my route, so it gets the tightest scheduling and the shortest drive between stops. It is also where quiet equipment earns its keep — a lot of these streets have people home during the day.

What mowing here actually involves

• Mature shade trees along the older streets near Chocolate Avenue mean heavy leaf load in the fall and thinner, slower-growing turf underneath.
• The newer developments out past Hershey Gardens tend toward open, sunny lots — faster to mow, but they dry out and brown first in July.
• Plenty of corner lots and tight cul-de-sac frontages, which is where the 33-inch walk-behind does better than a rider.
